Queen Mary Adventure!

Wow! I'm really behind on blogging! The end of the school year hit me like a ton of bricks and I've spent all summer recovering and, apparently, that recovery process didn't include blogging! BUT I've had some cool adventures that I know I'd like to remember, so I'll go ahead and post about them even though they're from months ago!
Like I said, the end of the school year hit me like a ton of bricks! I really don't like to call in from work unless I absolutely have to. As a teacher, it's way more trouble to write sub plans than it is to just go to work. Also, I kind of feel bad leaving my kiddos, knowing that there's a possibility that my sub won't follow my plans and that it will be a wasted day for them. I really don't like to waste their time and, at the beginning of the year, I always make a promise to my students that I'll give all I've got to help them and I won't waste their time. In return, I ask them to care even more about their own education than I do and to put in the work to ensure their own success. With that said, sometimes you just NEED a day. As the end of the year approached, I could feel that I was going to need a day off to keep myself sane enough to survive the long haul to the end of the year. As a result, I was able to plan ahead and set up an adventure for my little "mental health day" as I like to call them! I called in Personal Necessity for the day (and let's be real here, it really, truly was a necessity at that moment) and Scott's mom and I planned to go to the Queen Mary! She had never been before, but wanted to go, and I had been many times, but love that place enough to enjoy going back. We were able to go on some of the tours and even went on one that I'm not sure I have ever been on! The Glory Days tour was awesome and our guide was really good! He took us to a bunch of different places on the ship and showed us some cool stuff! For example, in one of the ballrooms/lounges for the upper class people, the mirrors are all tinted to make them look more tan and healthy, thus eliminating any pale/sick look that sea sickness may have brought on. We also went on the Haunted Encounters tour, where they take you to some of the spots on the ship that reportedly have had some spooky stuff happen. As we were in the bow of the ship, where the Queen Mary ran into the Curacoa and chopped it in half, killing a bunch of its crew, a huge bird flew down a shaft and scared everyone! We thought that it had gotten in through an opening up to the top, but when we walked the deck later on, we found the top of that same shaft and discovered that it was sealed completely shut. Where did that huge bird come from? Later, another bird, which looked just like that one, dive bombed me as we walked the deck. We both had a good laugh at those occurrences! We also had an interesting experience near the morgue of the ship. As we walked down the steps to the section where the morgue and hospital was, we both felt kind of uncomfortable. Oddly enough, we felt totally fine while we were actually inside the morgue/hospital part, but in the corridors leading to it, we were super creeped out. As we were leaving, it just got way too uncomfortable and we booked it out of there as fast as we could! It was creepy, but I guess it's kind of cool to get to experience some of the ship's notorious ghostly activity! We had lunch and wandered all around and just had a great time! It helps that I love spending time with her, too! She's seriously like a second mom to me, so it really was a great day and gave me the little break I needed to do a good job for my students in the last month of school! Here are some fun pictures we took that day!

By the way, she teased me about this one, big time! She said it looked like I was flirting with the ghost, rather than being scared by it! I swear I was making a scared face and started to laugh just as they snapped the picture! haha
We also spent quite a while in this room. This is a Lego model of the Queen Mary! It was pretty impressive! The attendant in the room told us that they hide a little cat figurine someplace in it every day. We looked and looked and didn't find it. Before we left, we happened to run into our tour guide and asked him if he knew where it was. He told us and we went back to see it, but they closed the doors just as we got there. Bummer! We'll get it next time!
It truly was such a fun day!
